Launch of the “Jewish Lower Silesia” Project Website

We are delighted to share with you the result of our passion and hard work — the Jewish Lower Silesia website. Over the past months, together with Urszula Rybicka (Żydoteka Foundation), we have been uncovering both lesser-known and better-known stories of the Jews of Lower Silesia.

The aim of the Jewish Lower Silesia project is to bring closer the extraordinary and somewhat forgotten history of the Jews who lived in this region — before World War II it was a German Jewish community, and after the war a Polish one. In our work, we focused on the histories of both groups.

In the first stage, we selected ten cities: Bolesławiec, Dzierżoniów, Głogów, Jelenia Góra, Kamienna Góra, Kłodzko, Legnica, Strzegom, Wałbrzych, and Wrocław. And this is only the beginning – in the next stage we would like to research additional towns and make the website a place that attracts descendants who may have memories or photographs from past decades. For now, the website is mainly in Polish, but at a later stage we plan to translate every article so that the knowledge will be accessible to everyone.

The mission of the Żydoteka Foundation is to popularize Jewish history and culture, and we hope that our new website will help you discover the history of the Jews of Lower Silesia. This website would not have been possible without funding from the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, for which we are deeply grateful. We believe that in the coming years the website will continue to grow and develop beautifully.

We would like to thank Tomek Hajduk for building the website; Łukasz Hajduk for the visual design, logo, and valuable guidance; Anna Wojczyńska for editing the articles; and the Studio Terra duo for the beautiful photographs. This was a collective effort by many committed and passionate people!

The project is held under the patronage of the NEVER AGAIN Association and the Association Verein zur Pflege schlesischer Kunst und Kultur (VSK). 📌 This publication reflects only the views of the authors and cannot be identified with the official position of the Minister of the Interior and Administration. Thank you, and we wish you an engaging read!

If you have photographs or memories related to the Jewish community of Lower Silesia, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!
